Piano & Chamber Competition 2020 - 3rd Annual Paderewski Music Festival

Welcome to the Paderewski Festival and Competition! 

The festival this year will be at Temple Square, with the Opening Celebration on January 22, 2020; 7-8:30pm at the Tabernacle on Temple Square.

The competition will be on January 23, 2020; 2-8:00 pm, at Assembly Hall, and final closing event January 24, 2020; 6pm, at Assembly Hall on Temple Square.

TO APPLY Thank you for your interest, the application period has closed for this years Paderewski Competition, please visit this page in the fall for information on Paderewski 2021: Please fill out the application form  and pay the application fee ($30 for soloists and $60 per chamber group). 

Application Deadline: December 31, 2019, 5pm MDT

Competition Details:

Sponsored by the Gifted Music School, this event celebrates Paderewski's legacy and keeps it alive through festivities, a competition, and lectures. 

          When: January 23, 2020-- Competition  January 24, 2020-- awards event 6pm

          Where: Assembly Hall, Temple Square, Salt Lake City, Utah

          Piano competition: Students ages 5-18 and open to pianists of all levels.  Requirements and details will be posted June 1, 2019

Chamber Competition: Student groups, quartets, quintets, trios, duos, all classical instrumentaiton.  Age limit is 18. (except, up to age 21 for woodwind performers)

Repertoire Requirement:  2 contrasting pieces different style periods (example, classical, baroque, romantic, 20th century, etc.)

Special Prize: Given to best performance of music of Polish Descent (Chopin, Paderewski, etc.)

Special Paderewski Prize: Given to best performance of music by Paderewski

Special Paderewski quiz prize: student who scores the highest on the Paderewski Quiz

Recognitions:  All students and groups will be recognized with a certificate and medal at the celebration concert. The jury, at their discretion, may designate a “Special Paderewski Honor” to performance(s) that demonstrated a particularly high level of preparation.  One or more honor recipients may be asked to perform on the January 24, 2020; 6pm celebration at Assembly Hall.

All decisions of the jury will be final. Good sportsmanship is required.  We want everyone to support each other and have a festive time!
