Chamber Music

Students are provided a structured, high-level chamber ensemble where they receive weekly coaching by a member of our Gifted Music School faculty, as well as a guided rehearsal. Chamber music develops essential musical growth for students, opportunities to work with other faculty, as well as connections with a broader musical community. This course will supplement an individual student’s communication, note-reading, rhythm, score study, listening, and camaraderie.

Attendance Policy

Students are permitted one (1) absence per semester. The consistent presence of all ensemble members is essential to everyone’s learning experience.

Parents are not required to attend rehearsals. Chamber music sessions will be scheduled to allow a 50-minute coaching and either another 50-minute or 30-minute (depending on age/level) rehearsal.

Weekly Assignments & Preparation

Students need to arrive with their own part prepared, with the help of the private instructor if necessary. Students also should be familiar with the other ensemble parts, studying the full score (provided along with individual part by the coach).

Each of the chamber ensembles will perform at an end-of-term concert in the fall and spring semesters. Additional performance opportunities that arise throughout the semester will be communicated by your faculty coach or the Preparatory Chamber Music Coordinator.
